Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to Gallatin! We are happy that you have made the decision to come here, and I am personally looking forward to meeting you when classes begin.
This website offers practical advice and information for all transfer students, but we have also planned two kinds of events to help you make the move to Gallatin. Every transfer student is invited to attend an optional Pre-Registration Workshop, and every transfer student is required to attend a mandatory Orientation in January or August, depending on which semester you enter.
All students transferring to Gallatin must complete the steps below in order to register. This process generally takes at least a few days. To begin, you should expect to devote several hours to reading over the various links located on this page. They contain information that will help you to understand Gallatin's philosophy and degree requirements, to locate interesting courses, and to ensure that registration and payment will be smooth and trouble-free.
- Return your Candidate's Reply Form to NYU Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The Admissions office cannot activate you as a Gallatin student until this form is received and processed. If you have questions about the form, call Admissions at (212) 998-4500 or stop by that office, 22 Washington Square North.
- Fill out Gallatin's on-line "New Student Questionnaire." We use this information to assign you to a primary academic adviser. The more information we have, the better. NOTE: The Office of Advising must receive this questionnaire before students will be permitted to register.
- Use your "Statement of Transfer Credit" (STC) to determine which Gallatin degree requirements you still must fulfill. (Look in the section titled, "Requirements for Degree.") Remember that if your STC is tentative, it may not include credit for the courses you were enrolled in during the previous semester.
- Learn how to navigate Albert, NYU's on-line registration system. To access Albert, you will first need to learn about your NetID and NYUHome. With these tools, you can monitor your academic progress, search for available classes, and register.
- Be in touch with a class adviser in Gallatin's Office of Advising in order to begin building your academic program. You will work with this adviser through your first registration. You will then meet and begin working with your primary academic adviser.
- If possible, attend a Pre-Registration Workshop. Here you can ask questions about courses, professors, and degree requirements.
- Search for classes on Albert. If you are registering after most NYU students have done so, you should pay careful attention to which classes are open and closed.
- Download and print the "Undergraduate Plan of Study."The "Plan of Study" is the form you must complete each semester in order to register. Give your class adviser a copy of your tentative "Plan of Study." Once your adviser approves your plan, you can be officially cleared to register by Gallatin's Office of Student Services.
- Use Albert to register for classes.
- Make arrangements to pay tuition.
- Attend Orientation in January or August, depending on your semester of entry. RSVP here.
